Kim Jong-woon (born August 24, 1984), better known by his stage name Yesung, is a singer, former DJ, occasional actor, and a member of Korean boy band Super Junior

Pre-debut Years

In 1999, Kim made his first television appearance in a local music event. Two years later in 2001, Kim auditioned in the Starlight Casting System and scraped through the contests with his "artistic voice". He was then recruited as a trainee under the talent agency SM Entertainment

2005–present: Super Junior

Further information: Super Junior
After four years of training in singing, acting, and dancing, Kim was finally placed in the all-male rotational performance group, Super Junior 05, as part of the first generation members of Super Junior. Complementing Kim's unique voice in the group, he was given the stage name Yesung, which denotes to "art-like voice". Super Junior 05 officially debuted on November 6, 2005. The group performed the debut single "TWINS (Knock Out)" on SBS's Popular Songs. The group released their full studio album a month later, and the album debuted as #3 on the monthly MIAK K-pop album charts.[1] As the group's second single, "Miracle", came to an end, his talent agency was about to recruit new members for the next Super Junior generation, Super Junior 06, with Yesung still as an undergraduate member of Super Junior. However, plans changed when the company added in a thirteenth member, Kyuhyun, and the company declared that future Super Junior generations were rumors. The group dropped the suffix "05" and became officially Super Junior. The new group hit big after they released their first CD single "U" the following summer in 2006, which became Super Junior's most successful single in the music charts, leading Super Junior to set #1 records in their music career since then.

In 2006, Yesung became a part of Super Junior's first sub-unit, Super Junior-K.R.Y, a group specializing in singing mournful, R&B ballads. The trio debuted on November 5, 2006 on KBS's Music Bank performing "The one I love."[2] Super Junior-K.R.Y promotions ended quickly and a year later, Super Junior as a whole released their second official album, Don't Don, which became the second best-selling album of the year.[3] In the summer of 2008, Yesung made a comeback as a member of Super Junior-Happy, the fourth official Super Junior sub-unit. Their first mini album, Cooking? Cooking! was released on June 5, 2008.

Other Works

2006–2007: DJ career
Since September 2006, Yesung had been a DJ for his own radio show, M.I.R.A.C.L.E for You, where members of Super Junior often appear as guests. However, before the radio show's first anniversary, Yesung had to end the program so he can further concentrate on his singing career. The last air date for the radio show was September 8, 2007.[4]

2008: Solo Career
Yesung is the first member of Super Junior that contributed as a solo singer for a drama OST, Tazza, a highly rated drama which started on September 16, 2008. He sang "사랑참아프다" (T/N:Love really hurts). This ballad song has been consistently used during the drama itself. He has performed the song live several times, including in the 3rd Anniversary Party of Super Junior.
